Highland Prep West students can start college early, right here on campus, two ways: Advanced Placement courses and Dual Enrollment courses. Both let a student earn college credit before graduation, which can save real time and money in college. Here is how each one works and what it can add up to.
You take a college-level course at Highland Prep West and sit the national AP exam in May.
A qualifying exam score, usually a 3 or higher, earns college credit at most colleges. The credit depends on your score and each college's policy.
You take a course that is also a real college course, taught through one of our partner colleges. No separate exam.
Passing the course earns actual college transcript credit from the partner college. That credit follows you and transfers under the receiving college's policy.
Each passed AP exam or completed Dual Enrollment course can be worth roughly 3 to 6 college credits. Stack a few and a student can start college with a semester or more already behind them, and a smaller tuition bill. The estimate below shows the range across Arizona's four-year universities.
